Invented by Jean Pelletier at the end of the 17th century, the gilt gesso technique has been used on wooden furniture for centuries as an expression of grandeur and luxury. This large, rectangular piece from England, circa 1930, features an original gilded frame in a restrained style, with a new distressed mirror plate.
